Based on the research of Cheryl Lynn Childers, this workshop will discuss how to best set your practice up to focus on child-centered play therapy. Guidelines for best practices and documentation will also be discussed. You will leave this workshop equipped and energized to prepare your practice to for child-centered play therapy.
This series of experiential workshops gave me the tools and strategies I needed to build a Child-centered play therapy practice.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will examine the history of child-centered play therapy.
- Participants will examine and demonstrate the use of the child-centered play therapy models general theories, principals and effectiveness utilizing interactive expressive interventions in private practice.
- Participants will be able to identify and discuss toys and supplies appropriate for child-centered play therapy practice.
- Participants will be able to discuss and demonstrate appropriate play therapy room set-up best designed for child-centered play therapy practice.
- Participants will discuss safety and ethical issues that may arise with child-centered play therapy practice.
- Participants will discuss and implement at least three (3) play therapy interventions appropriate for differing client situations through creative experiential exercises.

8:30 AM-9:00 AM Registration/Check-in and Networking Meet and Greet
9:00 AM-9:15 AM Introduction of the presenter & intro to Child-Centered Play Therapy.
9:15 AM – 9:30 AM Pre-Quiz/Q & A Discussion – What do you think you know?
9:30 AM-10:30 AM History of Child-Centered Play Therapy: Examine the general history and origin of child-centered play therapy and essential foundational theorists.
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM Discussion of the general theories, guiding principles, therapy models and evidence-based research of child-centered play therapy.
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Lunch Break - (Lunch is included)
1:00 PM – 1:30 PM Large Group discussion based on the morning’s instruction, what was learned/gained? What could improve your play therapy practice? What do you need? Q & A.
1:30 PM – 2:00 PM Setting up the child-centered play therapy room: Identify and discuss toys and supplies appropriate and not appropriate for the play therapy room.
2:00 PM – 2:45 PM Interventions and appropriateness for differing populations and issues.
2:45 PM-3:30 PM Small Group Break-out: Creative experiential highlighting a child-centered intervention.
3:30PM - 4:00 PM Questions, final discussion, certificates and survey.
